still herem=, more or less
hey to anyone who reads this. i am still alive, but my hp dv200 crapped out on me right before break, and while my folks and i have something resembling a plan in place, its loose and mianly involves me having some form of a working laptop by january 10th. Someone at my dads work also had a new thing come thru that needs to be out by the 7th, and he's trying to get it done earlyish so he doesnt have to work when he and i are going skiing and everything.
/i'm typing this on an old work computer of his that i will use sporadically. to my youtube freinds who see this, i'll try and keep in touch but i cant install flash on here. so youtube watching and commenting will be limited to when i can get onto my mom's comp.
once my personal computer situation gets going, i'll post more on here. this were just busy and yea

another way to kill time
so, i'm back at school from thaknsgiving break. it was a very fun break, and a nice reboot from school, which is helpful, because these next 3 weeks (well until i finish my experimanetal psych final on the 17th) are gonna be pretty intense.
so yea, this post is pretty much just to kill time. I had a fun break, studied and did some work. and saw a couple movies, Where the Wild things are and Ninja Assassin. Both are good movies. I didnt remember much of the book Where the Wild things are, so it was hard for me to gauge how true it was, but i believe it was pretty true. Ninja Assassin was a very good movie, albeti a bit campy. i suggest you go see it. It might flop, but i still liked it, in spite of a couple confusing parts. Once i have my general thoughts on it up on my youtube, i'll post a link here.
so that paragraph summs up Friday night- Wednesday. Thanksgiving was what it says. Friday (11/27) and Saturday (11/28) i played a lot of video games. some litlebigplanet by myself and then with the sister/ my dad. I spent most of Friday afternoon playing Resistance: Fall of Man Co-op with my sister's bf, who is very cool.
then it became sunday and i traveled back here to school.

revision of Scar Symmetry post
Hey,
I just wanna post a quick notice. Most of what i said i didnt like about Scar Symmetry's latest album (concernign song tempos and abrput changes specifically) i hahve to nix. The songs i didnt particularly care for have grown on me. so the album gets a solid 8/10.
In other music news, Filter has a new single coming out on the 10th. Its called "Fades like a photograph" and while i think it'll be one of the more mid-tempo songs on the new album (based off of reports i've heard of what the new album will be like) it's a darn good song. i like it alot. It should be on youtube.

Geekin' out
So i'm bored on a thursday ngiht, sitting in my pjs and i wanted to see if there was any new info the Golden Sun game they're doinf for the DS. I'll spare you all the details of the plaot of the orgiinal two games from '02 and '04. but the franchise plays a lot like final fantasy in some ways. Links will be at the end to info on the series and such.
So i search google and i see that a trailer for Golden Sun DS was released at E3. I feel kinda dumb for just seeing the trailer now, but i mean. it just further hypes the game for me. I dopnt know when in 2010 its comign out, nor do i know anythign about the plot, and thats just how i want it. all i know is that the main charcaters are descendants of the orginal cast from the first two games. again, see the links below.
My only issue with the game so fasr is thast it looks like they sacrficed the graphic capabiliteis a bti for whast the Nintendo DS/DSi can do. While that is annoying, i feel like they had to give somethign up to make it a 3-D realm and have dual-screen summons. That last thing is what is excitign me the most about the game. the freaking summons are dual screen, and they all look incredible.
Anyway, i'll stop my geeky ramblings here. links follow

Short Post
So the new Album from Creed came out today. I was really a casual fan of them growing up, and that seems ot have been as good course to take with this album.
There's 5 solid hard rock tracks on the 12 track album and 4 of them lead the album. There's a slower, song in the middle called "Away in silence" that i like, and i don't mind the current single "rain", which is track 5. But other than that i just get a more feeling of "it's missing something" from the remainder of the album. There is too many an occasion where the guitar solo is forced into the end so there can be a focus on the vocals and lyrics. I usually wouldnt mind this, but it just reminds me of the old days of Creed where Scott Stapp (the lead singer) refused to let Mark Tremonti (The Guitarist) solo except for on one or 2 songs each album. there's numerous songs on this latest album that would've benefitted from a Tremonti solo, i could name abotu 3 right now if i wasnted too.
Alter Bridge (the band that rose from Creed's ashes in 2003) is on indefinite hiatus until creed stopos touring and Tremonti, the bassist and Scott Phillips (the drummer) can work with Myles Kennedy ( Alter Bridge's lead singer) for the next AB album.
Alter birdge is mroe about the passion and art in hard rock, which i like more.
Overall thoughts on the creed album: "B". It's passable, but i'm underwhelmed

feel like a post
so i'm chillin int the kitchen of one of the other dorms on my kitchen campus playing Billy Joel and Elton John and celebrating a friend's birthday. also blowing off some steam cause i survived the week. got really scared when i got to the essay part of my psych test cause there were two seperate essays. the first of wich i essentially had to BS because i only partially knew what to say fo one of the topics (there was a choice of three 3) That's the weakest part of my exam i feel. I may have also tripped up on one fo the experiment questions (those being naming the Indep. Variable, its levels, the dependent variable, its levels, the scale a measurement for it, and the appropriate test) as it could've just bee a case when the Indep. variable was a subject variable and not exactly measureable persya.
anyway, i digress. then i get to the second esay and there were gaping holes in what i was gonna say for both potential options. This included one where it mentioned an experiment i studied in and out when i studied for the test. but it was mentioned in conjunction with a concept called "equapotentiality" which i was not familiar with, especially how it is bunk. I also coulddnt name the concept that replaced it so i was kinda S.O.L there. I ended up choosing the one where i was only a little fuzzy on one of the definitions in the essay and thats because the prof didnt cover it well.
Anyway. i am very much rambling right now. ITs homecoming/alumni weekend this weekend so any food in he cafeteria should be exceptional.
laters.

Thoughts on the new album from Scar Symmetry "Dark Matter Dimensions"
this note is probably an one off thing, btu here goes:
Artist: Scar symmetry
Genre: Prog/melodic/speed death metal (i know it makes no sense)
Album: Dark Matter Dimensions
Link: just google them.
Note: I do not have a tracklisting available, so just look it up online or in itunes.
Thoughts:
Scar Symmetry's latest album "Dark Matter Dimensions" is good, but the middle tracks seem like they wouldve fit better on the last album.
There really isnt a coherent tempo in the first song, even though it is good a catchy. I also feel like they rely too much on the awesome skill of their guitarists on this album. There's no real cohesiveness in terms of "lyrics, ok now solo, ok now lyrics" on this album. There's more of a "Hey, lets cram as much instrumentation into each song as possible and hope the vocals are up to par" thing. The vocals are up to par, especially on tracks 9 and 10. These are 2 of the best songs on the album, but they're so late and they're preceeded by tracks 5-7, which are sheer mediocrity.
thirdly, there is too much programmed synth noise on the album and ast one point it even envelops the guitar solo, which i dont like. I dotn have a problem with programmed synths in metal (Scar Symmetry used programming well on their album "Pitch Black Progress") but it seems to not really fit in on this album. I would've preferred no synth and more lyrical work
Fourthly, on at least 4 of the tracks, if not 5 (its a 12 track album) there are abrupt and jarring changes from melodic to speed/death metal on the majority of the tracks. I do not like this, and it makes it feel like the album was rushed. also coming into play here is that 3 of the songs end immediately on the last chorus. It sounds like the insturments just drop out after the final chorus, and me no likey.
overall rating: 7.5/10. In short, i still prefer their old stuff, btu there's some goodies on this album

Ranting Season
quick post that i wanna hammer out before stdying for my experimental psych test.
so for some reason i'm incredibly antagonistic/cranky today. its weird cause i got 7 hours of sleep and i feel only a bit but yea. My morning classes were fine, if a bit slower than usual. but thats not the point.
Here's the point: IF you're a freshman, you need to have some level of maturity. This jock who was in line behind me going to lunch (we'll call him connersville cause that was the name of the town on his sweatshirt, probably his hometown) was being very immature and obnoxious for someone his age (18-19). one of his friends was being obnoxious too him, for fun and to get a reaction. connersville and the freind saw another guy they knew and connersville said "blank is being annoying" (blank being connersville's friend). everytime the friend did whatever he was doing to connersville, connersville would say in the most annoying whiny voice "STop it!" and the freind kept going and connersville kept saying that. That in it of itself wasnt all that annoying, and i was consdiering turning around and telling connersville to stop saying "stop it" because the friend was trying to get a reaction out of him, and he was giving the friend what he wanted. but then, when connersville tried to get in line with the other friend, he didn't walk to the back of the linem which wasn't too far outside, he cuts in front of the 10 or so people behind me and squeezes in next to his friend in line. I could essentually feel connersville and his friend pressing into my bag. There's a little thing called personal space even when people are lined up in a que to go into Saga. connersville clearly had no idea that he was invading into my confrot zone. Then, he started squirming around with his friends and syaing "stop it" again and shit, and i was so tempted to turn around and tell him to shut up, but connersville is a jock so i was kind of intimidated. I finallly get into saga andd then he cuts his freinds to hand his ID to the lady so his card can be scanned for the meal.
I set my stuff down and then i go to the Grill area line to get my food and connersville shows up like 3 people behind me. He was being loud, which is fine, but when one of his jock freinds was waiting for his burger, connersville says, "Yo, Painter, hurry the f*&^ up." (painter is the guy that was waiting's last name). This was incredibly obnoxious, especially because those of us in that line were all hungry and we were waiting too. and then like 3 minutes later connersville says the same thign again. At this point i wanted to turn around to him and say, "hey, grow the f*&^ up and be patient, you'll get food." but i didnt because once again, connersville is a jock and could probably beat me up by flicking a finger at me.
connersville was not really giving a good impression of who he is to everyone in line who didnt know him, and he certainly was not repping Connersville well.
Rant over.
Til next post, rock on

something to kill time
So i need to kill time for a bit, so i figured i'd do a fresh post.
I was playing Pokemon Diamond earlier and apparently i forgot that my cheat thing for my Nintendo DS makes that game freeze on occasion. That blows. Oh well, i did save before it glitched though.
It;s been oddly cold here so far for this break. It's mid-semester break here at school and honestly, even wiht my normal workload this is the most awesomely mellow mid-sem break i've had. ITs jsut great to not have to do anything academically today or tomorrow. I did a bit of eaiser HW yesterday afternoon, but yea. its going by wicked slowly too, which is nice. but yea. i hahve no plans to do anythign tomorrow, which is very very nice. I'm doing well in most of my classes i feel. I have another test in experiemental psych this comign week though which is a pain. I didnt do well on the first, but now i know what the professor wants so hopefully i'll do better on this next test. I'll probably go to the review session this time.
In other news, the majority of yesterday afternoon after homework, last night and the ngiht before last were awesomely geeky. Wednesday ngiht i just sat and watched a bunch of my freind altenrate between Magic:The Gathering and playing video games. Yesterday afternoon a bunch of my freinds eneded up playing that card game Munchkin for like 3 hours until a couple of them won. Then, after dinner a handful of us rotated around playing a game developed in conjunction with the people at Newgrounds called Castle Crashers. It's insanely fun. It's downloadable only though. so you have to get it off of xbox live or the playstation network. It's go music by the guys who run Newgrounds.com. Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Crashers
I really enjoy it, check it out if you're a gamer.
After that, I watched my freind Ben play Brutal Legend for like 4 hours. Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brutal_Legend (ok so there's a German accent over the U, so you may need to just google the name). ANyway, ita a beautiful game and its so Metal. I could go into the plot and everythign from what i've seen, but that's a seperate post. But yea. After thatm i stayed up until abotu 3am talking to a freind from back home.
Today's been pretyt low-key. Slept in until 11, showered, dressed, went to lunch, came back organized my transformers collection in a way slightly more logical than how it was, and then changed my sheets.
I really wanna move the furniture around on my side of the room, but i really have no good ideas for it right now. i really wish they had given loftable bedframes to my room for this year, then i could've lofted my bed and put my dresser and desk under it.
Ok, enugh rambling for now.
There'll probably be another post this weekend.

It should be a law for Fat guys to wear belts. and other ramblings
Look at this, posting a day early. you can probably tell its been an easy week for me. and to be honest, not much is new in my world.
I got a new transformer figure in the mail. Not that my one follower as of this post knows about transformers, but yea. Transformers Cybertron Crosswise. Very cool bot with simple, yet unique transformation. He doesnt have nearly the poseability of some of my other figures, but i dont mind that.
In other news, this weekend is shaping up to be a pretty fun one at my college. Friday night the RAs in my dorm are showing a movie downstairs in the TV lounge (beats me what movie has won out or how on earth the majority of the bundy residents are gonna fit into the TV lounge comfortably). Saturday Night the Student Activities board is showing Watchmen, which makes me happy cause its a very good movie (the graphic novel is like a 10/10, the movie is an 8.5 or 9/10 for me). Then after that theres a concert on campus of some up and coming artists. While i usually like the bands Earlham brings in (there was one instnace where they brought in 2 guys who were friends and were doing an acoustic tour together instead of touring with their backing guys, and well lets just say the room where the concert was held was not condusive to that kinda of music and both guys got really annoyed at the drunk people talking (who appear at every concert) so one of the musicians went all passive aggressive and unplugged his acoustic guitar so you had to literally be within a foot of him to hear it)...
Whoah, sorry for that rambling there. anyway, as i was saying, i usually like the bands Earlham brings in. My freshman year they brought in this band called Yeasayer who i loved, but i've just stopped listening to for some reason (their debut album was very lopsided, all the songs me and my freinds liked were before track 10) and last year's bands, Wax Fang and Gentlemen Auction house, i really liked, but i really dont listen to either on a regular basis now. I dont even think i've listened to Wax Fang in a year-ish. As for the bands coming this year. I am not blown away by the first one, which is a duo named AntiMagic. The second one, a band called Future Islands, i'm liking cause they have a ineresting sounds and vague hint of Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
The 3rd and 4th bands on the docket, I'm turning into (yes thats their name) and "Screaming Females" I cant get into at all. With I'm turning into, i like their sound kind of but someone needs to turn up the power on the vocals amplifier. With Screaming Females i can sum up their "music" in one phrase: "catsrtaed lead singer places cat on his guitar". 'nuff said. I'll probably go and only really pay attention to Future Islands' set.
In other ramblings, theres this chronically obese guy who will remain nameless who always hangs otu with this guy i kinda know down the hall. I ahve 2 huge issues with this chronic obese guy (we'll call him C.O.g).
Other than that, life is pretty good. Anyway, this post took me a little over 2 hours to write. i started it before dinner, came back, forgot about it, went ot hang out in my dorm's kitchen and got locked out until abotu 1o minutes ago.
till next post everyone, Rock on
I got a new transformer figure in the mail.

- C.O.g wears shirts that are about 2 sizes too small so you can essentially see his gut overhanging his waist if he moves an inch
- C.O.g doesnt wear a belt. His pants fall down incredibly far, exposing an unhealthy portion of his boxers. nobody wants to see that. and since he wears such short shirts, his ass hangs out of his boxers. Nobody wants to see that!

Dont expect these to be an everyday thing
so really the only homework i had today, because i got it all done on the weekend, was organizing a paper that i have to do for friday, and that was pretty easy. Had to also do some work for my applicaiton to study abroad through my school (for my non Earlham followers once they come in) in May. Hopefully i get into that program, actually that remids me, i need to ceck my e-mail after this.
Anyway that rambling aside, there's your reason for a fresh post today. It will be a rarity that these will be up every day during the school year. i may use this as a repository for reviews of any transformers figures i get over major breaks. I'd do that as like text reviews and mainly because it take forever to upload youtube videos from home. Although, now that i'm using Windows Movie maker, mayeb that isnt a factor, we'll see.
So yea like i said, dont expect everyday posts here from me.
So my folks were in town this weekend to visit me here. It was nice, and just the mental reboot i needed after 3 very busy weeks. they got in around 1 on saturday and we jetted over to lunch at Little Sheba's, this wonderful local sandwich and pizza place. Lunch was a blast and then we drove around a bit before coming back here. they tagged along with me to dance practice, and seemed to enjoy watching it. We then dilly-daddled (spelling?) in Earlham's small natural history museum for a bit and the drove out to wallmart where they bought me a trash can, a better travel mug ( i won one at a campus thing last year, so that one will be my backup) and a couple transformer figures. One of them is really growing on me, despite a fairly big flaw in the design of the robot mode (it's a plane-former and the robot head is molded so it can't come out of the cockpit without serious modification). after that, we went to their hotel so they could check in and we worked on my essays for the aforementioned Greece trip. we then went over to dinner at a Mexican place by campus and saw 2 ambulances and 3 cop cars (2 SUVs, 1 sedan) go by. It looked like there was an accident up by the CVS on this side of town. Hope whoever was involved is ok.
Anyway, mid-semester break is right around the corner, which means i'm halfway done wiht this semester almost. That's rather scary. It's almost time for me to eat, so i'm gonna cut this post off here. No idea when the next post will be, maybe Friday.
Anyway till next time people.
