An open suggestion to Earlham College. You have paper towel/ hand wipe paper dispensers in the academic buildings on campus. Why aren't there any in the dorms? Sure it would add a bit of mess, but it would keep people's hands cleaner and those of us who wear contacts and need to wash our hands first would have something to dry our hands with, instead of our bathrobes, towels, or the toilet paper, all of which have little fibers that could get into the contact solution and irritate our eyes.
To my readers/ followers: What do you guys think of the above? Agree/Disagree? why? Leave a comment below.

Weekly update 2-23-10: Yea, i know i'm early again
the "Intro":
So yea i'm early again this week. mianly cause some stuff has come up and i wanna keep my wednesday someowhat open wiht work and stuff so i dont run the risk of being horribly burned out at the end of this week, even though early semester break was just this past weekend. That's actually the only major thing in this week's update, and we'll get into that in a second.
First off, I'm gonna cut back on the bonus posts, cause i've been ambushing my followers with too many posts each week, and i dont wanna go to bi-weekly updates, without runnign the risk of doing super lneghty posts like last weeks.
Secondly, I downloaded the soundtrack to the 1986 animated Transformers movie today. I still need to see, but its totally awesome in a " mess wiht your mind kind of way" that i'm listening to music that came oout 2 years before i was born.
Anyway, onto the "Meat and Potatoes Section":
"Meat and Potatoes Section:"
ok. i really only have 2 things i need to cover here this week, and the first is one phrase: early semester break.
Ok, so i had the room to myslef for a chunk of midsem which was nice, cause my roomie was out with his girlfriend (who i'm close with) and they actually went out of the city for a couple days. anyway my mid-sem was fun and mildly geeky. how so you ask? well here's waht i did.
Wednesday afternoon i organized what i had to do over the 4 day break and en trapsed around my dorm alot. I spent most of the evening watching one of my freinds play Mass Effect 2, which i am officially in love with and i need to get both games in that franchise at some point. Anyway, i then just schmoozed in my dorm for a lot of that evening and then at one point realized i had completly forgotten to go to the mardi gras party in one of the college houses. This aggravated me to a point, but i soon got over it.
Thursday was pretty uneventful. I watched the same freind continue to play Mass Effect 2 at a couple points, and made an itemized excel spreadsheet of my transformers collection, basically so i can keep track of what i have. That evening i went out and did some stuff for human development, which i cant post about here cause its a confidential case study. after that, i came back, hung out and got rid of a slicing headache.
Friday was low key, mainly cause i was starting to feel under the weather. I spent a fair amount of time in the aforementioned friend's room, and came back to my room off and on to do stuff, including paying my bill, which was not really fun. oh well. I honestly dont remember what else i did friday.
Saturday and sunday were my usual weekend: get up, get sustenance in my system, shower, and then get cracking on work. PRetty low key workload which was nice. especially on sunday cause on of my profs sent an e-mail to the class saying she had cut the reading in half. That was such a win. I mainly jsut walked around and hung out with ppl when i had stopped working.
See look already this is way shorter.
Last thing i wanna say and then i'll punch out is that i'm one of the students on New Student orientation staff again. I'm very happy, mainly cause it was alot of fun doing it for this year's freshman and i'm on the exact same 2 committees for this go around. And this guy who is just awesome is leading one of them and i'm pumped. yay!
the "Wrapping-it-all-up" section:
So yea. thats about it for me for this week. Like i said, i'm gonna scale back the bonus post amount, so sorry for bombarding you all.
Let me know if you all like the section headings, if should make them a different color or what.
'til next week or the next bonus post, rock on everyone.

bonus post #11: update on tomorrows post

bonus post #10: am i the only person who thinks this?
quick post cause i gotta get to class. Am i the only person who thinks 100 pages in between class sessions just so the class as a whole can move onto the next unit via a prof's pacing of the class is too much reading for a class thats an intro the the department/ potential minor field of concentration?

Bonus post #9: Notification please
Back for another bonus post. this could also go in the weekly update, but i'm doing it here.
So the same people who send the residents in my dorm e-mails about shoes in the hall and stuff dont notify the students of things that are a bti more inconveniencing. Case in point, someone from maintenance put a sign up on the door of the guy's bathroom closest to me saying that itll be closed from 12-2 today. That's fine, and its only a minor inconvenience cause there's another one at the other end of the hall. Still though, i woulda liked even a short e-mail from Maintenance or the higher-ups in my dorm notifying the general populus in my dorm of this.
I believe that if you're doing somethign that gonna impact people, you should notify the masses that are involved. Granted, alot of the time that's nigh impossible to do. But in something like the above case, it ain't too hard to send an e-mail saying " this bathroom on the 2nd floor of this dorm will be closed from 12-2 for this reason".
It keeps the people informed. IF the people are informed they're happy. If you dont inform the people, you are more likely to be able to get away with shady stuff (this will be explained in a bit more detail in the weekly update). But when the people find out abotu the shady stuff, they wont be happy.
I'm not syaing that every single time one of the higher ups on campus does somethin that impacts a segment of the studnets for a portion of time, they should notify the segment, but that the higher-ups should do it most of the time and not sit on their butts sending out e-mails that students get every year.
Just my 2 cents, feel free to comment.

bonus post #8: a quick rant
ok so this really would bonus post #9, but blogspot wouldnt let me post the original #8 for some odd reason. Anyway, i have a quick rant based on one of my classes.
As a prof, you should cover all the themes mentioned in the reading you assign us normally (20-40 pages), not just the big broad ones. and if you only do the latter you should not assign 60 some pages of reading over a long weekend, especially when a group of students has to "tweet" on twitter in 140 characters or less. I'm sorry, but i cant cover half the topics i would tweet about in 140 characters. Also, if you're gonna even use twitter to boost class participation, look at all the posts for that class session, not only the 4 or 5 most recent.
and on an unrelated note someone is using a beater in the kitchen to beat stuff together, and theyre beating whatever theyre making to death, cause they turn the device on every 30 seconds and beat the substance or whatever on super high for 30 seconds. What are you making that requires that intense heavy beating, bread soup?

Weekly update 2-17-10: This one gets lenghty part 2
Welcome to part 2. Here's the rest, the more general stuff.
Please read part 1 first.
The "Meat and Potatoes" section:
haha. you guys like that section heading? anyhow, lets press on..
to ts week's main topics. First up big egos. now those of you who know me personally know that i have an ego, and i'll be the frist to admit that its kinda inflated. but when it comes to other people i know or know of, i cannot stand people that have this "God complex" of sorts when it comes to their ego. Specifically people who think they're awesome no matter what. To me, these people are the kind of people who dont seem to think theyre flawed, when everyone is. Now alot of you already know this is a dislike of mine, so this paragraph is gonna be a bit redundant for you all. but this whole issue recently came up for me again with a friend who i've had a couple tiffs with this year. that friend complains incessantly after every dance that Earlham has had this semester about the poor quality of it in terms of music taste and volume. that and this friend ("TF" for the rest of the paragraph) seems to have the sense that "TF" is awesome and is incredibly good looking. "TF is not incredibly good looking, in fact there's something that is very "meh" about "TF". Yet it is "TF" 's super inflated ego that causes the other state of mind. the other thing that annoys me abotu "TF" i mentioned in one of my mini-posts from over the weekend, so i wont go into it here (even though i said i would).
Ok rant done. Sorry that was so ranty. NExt topic.
Body hair:
Is anyone else find it a turn off that hippies just let their leg hair and armpit hair grow? I do. Now i respect it if it's done for religious reasons. There's nothing wrong with that, but if you're tryign to be all environmental by saving energy and water by not shaving your legs and such, its kind of nasty. well nasty's not the right word. I know shaving legs is hard from what i hear, but armputs are generlly easier and you can be environmentally aware and still not have hair in every possible spot on your body. Again, if you dont shave cause of a religious doctrine, thats ok by me.
two more thigns to cover this week. lets get to them.
A more Genral update on me:
Life is good for me. at long last my stressful period of classes seems to be winding down, which makes me very happy. that and early semester break is this weekend so we have thursday- sunday off. well we normall have Saturday and Sunday off, but not Thursday and Friday. I have some plans over the long weekend. mainly to do work on the weekends but still have fun, i get to sleep in on thursday and friday, and i have a summer job application to work on the essays for on friday, which shouldnt be too bad. Thursday, my big fun project is gonna be too inventorize (i think i just made up a word) my collection of transformers in Excel. that way i'll have a running list of what i have in my collection. I wont go into the specifics of the spreadsheet here, but its gonna be fun to do and then i can just add new figures to it as they come in. Speaking of figures, i'm debating on if i'm gonna take any to Greece with me on my May term trip. If i do, they'll be small ones that i can replace if need be.
the week that was in between these major updates was busy yet fun, like how my life has been the past couple of weeks. Last thusday and friday were manageable with a bit more work than usual cause i worked ahead in relation to the weekend in one class. The weekend was filled wiht essay writing for intro to lit (the papers we wrote we're gonna workshop and then re-write based on our peer's suggestions and those of the profs (i skimmed the first two sentences of one already and that person opens with shock value, which is something the jury is still otu for me in terms of liking it)) and filling out a study guide for human development. there was insane amount of questions for the study, especially given there was no TA or study session. most of the people i talked to spent several hours answering the questions and then studying from them. All in all thought, while i was greatly annoyed at the number of questions, it was actually a really effective way for me to study, and had very little trouble recalling the information on the test. the test was yesterday and Monday itself wasnt too bad. I honestly almost didnt go to my afternoon class yesterday, but i did cause i figured we'd be workshopping the papers in class. Turns out that wasnt the case and we spent the majority of the class analyzing an article analyzing authorship in literature. The article itself seemed pretty bland, and i'm not gonna lie, i actually didnt read it cause of time issues with the paper for the class and studying for Human Development. I'm convinced Lit will be interesting, even if i could really not care at all about the various literary theories we are covering. Makes me have more respect for English majors, they have to know alot of the different theories and criticisms.
Its funny, tyoign this blog post has actually taken most of my morning. Kind of intense.
Last topc for this section. here we go...
grinding on the dance floor- my 2 cents
Last thing i wanna touch on this week harks back to the dance this past weekend. the people i got to know from one of the dances i was in for Dance Alloy last semester were complaining about the griding and the "sea of hormones" that existed once the slightly drunk or mostly drunk people showed up. Maybe i;m in the minority of the predominately "sober on the weekend" people i know, but i honestly dont mind grinding. Sure, i'll get envious of a guy grinding wiht some girl who i'd wanna grind with, but in spite of that i dont mind it. It's just one of those social societal conventions i've come to accept. mainly because it'll be everywhere i go when i go out with freinds in grad school and when i'm my own.
Final thoughts Section
to everyone who sar through this post, i applaud you and i apologize for the length of it. I may or may not have bonus posts this next cycle between posts, we'll see. anyway, i'll do the next one of these big things on the 24th.
oh, what did you all think of the section headings this week?
so until then guys, thanks for reading and feel free to add a comment below.

so until then guys, thanks for reading and feel free to add a comment below.
Weekly update 2-17-10: This one gets lenghty.
So i'm having my coffee and now i feel good. Kudos to anybody that gets that reference.
Speaking of coffee, you might wanna get a drink or snack or something before you read this. This is a long one, just to warn you all. so long, its gonna be 2 posts. This is part 1
Anyway, I'm gonna get to the meat and potatoes of this post in a sec, but first some general stuff that doesnt really fit in to the other stuff i'm gonna blog about, and i didnt wanna do another mini-post about this stuff. so onto the general housekeeping.
General Houskeeping-ness:
Much much congratulations goes out to one of my followers, my good freind Kaitlin F. She's a wonderful and awesome person, who i feel very lucky to have know and she's gotten into a couple of the Med schools she's applied too. She's like a little (yeah, she's younger than me, its weird) sister to me, and she's had amazing skill at getting into med schools so far. So Kaitlin, if you read this, which i think you will, much much congrats comes your way. I could not be more proud of you
2nd-ly in the general houskeeping kick i have a quick music reccomendation if anyone is a fan of classical yet slightly more modern piano music, look into Yunus, he's a Dutch Pianist who i found out about on Audiosurf, which is featuring him this week. link to his page, where you can download the first 3 tracks of his album as well as with links to places where you can get the full thing for free: www.yunus-piano.de Just click on the music tab on the side. I used the second linnk after the free mp3s for the first 3 tracks to get the album. Now striaght piano music is not my thing, but i really dig this guy and what he does. so even if you normall skim over this music section, check him out.
3rd up in this section is acouple thigna botu my life here at earlham. I'm part of the amnesty international student group and we;re doing a week of Action and Awareness for Haiti in conjunction with the Progressive studnet union on campus from Feb 22nd to the 26th. we have various events [planned for each eveing and a dance planned for that firday. there will be little siblings in town so, those of you who have beeen unnerved by the abundance of rap, grinding and obnoxiously loud music at all the other dances in comstock this year, you should know that the music will be better and the amnesty people there will make sure its not too loud. Unrelated to the amnesty thing, but related to Earlham is that the freeboxes here where people put clothes they dont want anymore, are awesome. I got a pair of warmup pants that are a bit baggy, but if i cut the legs of the pants off at a good place, they'll be fine, from the freebox last night.
4thly. I hate to end this section on a down note, but if anyone who reads this could please keep my friend Dan from Arizona in your thoughts. He's a fellow transformer reviewer on youtube and is a close freind of mine in that community and he's always been supportive of my work. All that and he's a guy who's several years older than most of us here at EC. The reason why i request you all keep him in your thoughts and prayers, is that his mother died a couple weeks ago, and she was the one who got him back into his hobby of collecting. I know all of you could care less about transformers, but this guy is a good freind of mine over in the community, and it would mean alot if you'd keep him in your thoughts.
Ok, so thats it for the general housekeeping onto the main section in part 2:

He's a fellow transformer reviewer on youtube and is a close freind of mine in that community and he's always been supportive of my work. All that and he's a guy who's several years older than most of us here at EC. The reason why i request you all keep him in your thoughts and prayers, is that his mother died a couple weeks ago, and she was the one who got him back into his hobby of collecting. I know all of you could care less about transformers, but this guy is a good freind of mine over in the community, and it would mean alot if you'd keep him in your thoughts.
Ok, so thats it for the general housekeeping onto the main section in part 2:

bonus post #7: quick rants for a Tuesday
quick rants:
#1: Just because a prof signals that class is almost over by asking for any further thoughts or q's, doesnt mena you and your friend should have a side convo in the back for the last 10 minutes of class while your classmates are debriefing the subject. Show some respect and talk to your freind afterwards.
#2: If for some reason i've fallen out of favor wiht you and we havent hung out in a while, tell me why i feel out of favor and dont make obnoxious side comments when i'm around and can ppick up on them.
#3: I dont think i've mentioned how much the oveuse of the word "like" annoys me. i've said it alot and i am cutting back because to me its immature. especially when people say something alogn the lines of "well, it;s like Satan is like moving throughout the different levels of being in Hell in PAradise Lost, like there's no established sense that he is the like overall like tyrant." the word "like" when used as much as it is nowadays makes the kids coming up in the years after i was born (Cause lets face it, thats when it started being very prominent in our language) sound stupid. The word "like" should be abolished as a filler space for the silence in between people's words. especially when its coupled with "you know" and repeated as a chain 2-3 times before the meat of what the person has to say

bonus post #6: mmore closure on the dance last night and an interesting contradiction
so yea, more closure on the dance last night, it was fun but there was an abundance of the usual. What i find was funny was that at one point the DJ plays a string of 3-4 super bad songs and there's no one on the dance floor at that point but a group of my friends. acording to them, they wanted to see if he would keep playing the bad music if they walked off the dance floor. Well they did walk off, and he kept playing.
This reminds me of a quote that one of my other friends said just a bout 10 minutes ago: "You know one day, DJs will realize that the dance floor is not their Ipod. It's not what they want to hear, it's what the people at the dance want to hear." Going off of that, a DJ shouldnt play rap when there's sober people there who want more varied and good music.
last thing in this bonus post, And i'll flush this out more in the coming weekly update,: I find it rather contradictory that one of my freinds was complaining about the bad rap and techno, and bad mixing of the two, when she was being all sexual with her dancing on this one rap song that has the lyrics, "she moves he body like a cyclone" of whatever. I'm just saying, i think there's a bit of a contradiction there.
well, on the bright side, at least they played "Run this town" by Jay Z feat. Rhianna and Kanye West. That's a good song

bonus post #5: a brief commentary on DJs
look at you all getting multiple posts from me. anyway i just wanna comment here briefly on Djs.
1) it says something about your DJ skills if people have to threaten the DJ with "We'll leave this dance unless you play these songs." I'm jsut saying.
2) if there is a mass exodus of people after you segue from a song everyone liked to some generic rap song, you as a DJ need to realize that maybe your set list is horrid (i could be meaner, but i've got family that reads this)
3) DONT PLAY GENERIC RAP MUSIC WHEN THERE'S NO MORE THAN 30 SOBER PEOPLE THERE. TAKE REQUESTS, PLAY STUFF THAT'S NOT RAP.
4) dont remix Lady gaga. She's already a musical remix anyway.
All in all the dance that spurred these comments wasn't too bad , but coulda been a lot better. if i had to put a number to it, i'd give a 7.5
Last thing: i love how my school's response to complaints about the DJs at all other dances this year was to bring in the company they used in years pass, who is just as bad.

bonus post #4: A commentary on something ppl say alot and a suggested reading
ok so one of my freinds just said to me : "oh isn't person x really nerdy" now i'm gonna not mention the person we were talking about. but yea, have you all a had that where someone says that someone else is a perfect example of a characteristic. it's weird, especially when you barely know the person your friend is talking about. so when the freind says something like the above to you, you're forced say "i dont know i barely know him/her" i just find this little nuance of the english lnaguag funny.
reccomended reading = Hunger of Memory by Richard Rodriguez. it's his autobiogaphy on how he went from not speaking a lick of english to being fully assmiliated into american culture. he makes some very good points and is a very nice writer

Weekly update 2-10-10: General musings
Hey all back for my weekly update, and look i'm actually doing it on the right day this week.
Anyhow, theres probably around a foot of snow on the ground which is awesome. my elbow is really dry and irritated. meh. onto the main topics...
Ok so i actually made a resolution this year. It was about my weight, i've been hovering around 195/200lbs since october, and anyone that knows me, knows thats a super unhealthy weight for my height. ideally i need to be close to 170 or in the upper 160's in poundage. Problem is, its incredibly hard to lose weight here in college i've found. even if you cut way back in terms of what you eat in the cafeteria or when you cook, there's still that constant temptation of food being nto too far away. Of course, you could agrue that it takes a certain level of self control, and i agree it does. for some reason i have very little self control when it comes to eating here at school. After i've had my meal, i'll feel slightly hungry in a couple hours and get a huge snack, or a snack that has more calories than it should. then, someone will have food out in the kitchen and i'll run and grab some, usually more than one piece even if the food (be it cake or whatever) isnt that great.
I'm really annoyed at myself that i cant seem to lose weight at all here. for those you who dont know, i lost 11lbs going into this school year, and while still a bit heavyset, i looked so much healthier. I felt i was good looking and i looked fairly healthy. and now i'm obese, and i've missed my goal in terms of wieght lose for 1 month already and i'm probably gonna miss it for february as well. unless i go super healthy, which i might. Ugh.
Ok, second big thing i wanna cover this week: Everyone on my floor in my dorm got an e-mail from the Area director for my dorm and the one across from it about an apparent issue wiht our shoes and other winter gears (gloves and such that need to dry) being out in the hall against the wall. The area director, who i wont name, said he had been contacted by housekeepping in bundy (my dorm) who was annoyed with this. Are they really? neither of the housekeepers in bundy are so hardcore about every single rule that they will rudely enforce it. in fact, all they'll do is ask you nicely to move your stuff to one side of the door so they can vacuum the otherside and go around it. So I honestly dont know which bundy housekeeper would complain to area director when neither is the complaining type. anyway, i digress. so appareantly us keeping our shoes in the hall on the carpet against the wall keeps housekeeping from cleanign that area, well they dont have to clear every are on the floor, plus like any private houseekeper they can move the stuff, clean and then put it back. We have our shoes and such out there cause we want to keep our rooms clean and not accidentally step in whatever we bring in from outside.
There's also the issue that shoes in the hall are a fire hazard. They're no more a fire hazard than the equipment housekeeping uses, which may i add, they just leave out in the middle of the hall sometimes. If a fire alarma went off while the stuff was in the hall, i guarantee you someone would freak, run into one of the housekeeping carts and hurt themselves a bit. with shoes, all that happens is you trip yourself and stumble. even if you fall you can catch yourself.
Woah, i got way ranty in that second topic. sorry. so yea. lots of snow on the ground here in Indiana which is awesome. This weekend should be very fun in spite of the work i have. i have a bit of a lighter load in one of my classes for the weekend (assuming nothing gets added on) which is nice, considering i have a 5-6 page paper on 12th night by shakespeare and a exam in human development on tuesday. But the fun stuff this weekend is 2 trademark Earlham dances. The valentines day themed one (which is fun even if you're single) and then the swing dance/ salsa dancing one. both cost $$ but the proceeds ffrom the first benefit Haiti and the proceeds forom the 2nd go to united way, so thats a good reason to charge.
The week after early-semester long weekend (a.k.a. we're a quaker college and we want to be nice to out students and give them a long weekend 4 weeks into the semester, so they dont burn out) the student group i help convene, Earlham's branch of Amnesty international is planning a week fo stuff around haiti, includign a dance with haiti related music in comstock at the end of the week. If anyone who has been complainign about the volume of the music at the SAB dances in comstock this year sees this, i'll try and make it so the volume is tolerable.
Other than all that, not much is really new here, jsut the same ol' same ol. there is a meeting for people interested in bein New Student OReintation staff members tonight, and i am totally going. I had a blast doing it goin into this year. Speaking of next year, alot of my freinds in the years below me have started talking about housing and such and alot of the ones that are either off campus now or are not in my current dorm are gonna be moving onto my floor or the one above. In short, i'm incredibly attached to this dorm, and thats gonna make my housing decision (either a single on the floor above or one in the dorm connected to the student center) alot harder.
Aight thats it for this week.

Bonus post 3: more random lyrics
more random lyrics. These literally just popped into my head and are in no way related to those in bonus post 2.
"as meaningful as"
Chorus/ hook line
Cause your life is as useful
as heals on ice
cause your life is as meaningful as
an empty bottle
What do you all think?

Weekly update 2-2-10: Yea, i know i'm early this week
Yea, i know this post is up early, but whatever, it need to get done. The reason why this is up on a tuesday night and not wednesday AM-ish is a little thing called schoolwork. between the 2 papers i have due next tuesday, and all my usual stuff. i need the couple hours after my class on wednesdays and lunch to do some work. so yea, not that this takes me hours to draft, i just wanted to free up that time form 10-12 when i usually type this and then post.
Anyway, onto the update. So this past week mark the beginning of a very intense period of work for me. Alot of the usual homework stuffs plus beginning to organize stuff for human development's case study project, and papers and 2 tests all before Earlham's mid semester break. I'm confident i'll make it thru, as i've gone through longer hellish periods before. I jsut defintily feel there will be a burn out at some point this semester in everythign but human dev. I was really only burned out on classes one other time here at EC, and i think that was spring of Freshman year oddly enough. Though i guess the good thing abotu having all this stuf is that it keeps me occupied and makes me feel awesome when i hammer out a little over a page of a single spaced short reader response in less than an hour. Yea, i take pride in that, so what?
Ok now to the non academic ramblings.
This month's issue on Gamepro magazine came in the mail today. So now last month's issue, which i didnt get to read of cause of not bothering too look at it when i was free is kinda moot. oh well. thats kinda a useless bit of info.
anyway, I'm excited for Dance alloy this semester i'm learning to Salsa which is a lot of fun. and i'm in another dance that one of my friends is choreographing. yay for fun exercise. speaking of exercise, wow do i need to lose weight. my goal for this year is to lose 2 pounds every month so i'm down to around 170 by my 22nd birthday (holy crap i'm old) and yea, i'm kinda failing at that so far. honestly i think i just need to find a method of geeting enerrgy for my long day on tuesdays and my semi- long one on thursdays that doesnt involve sodas, and i should be fine. the dance the my friend is choreographing is to a song called "lisztomania" by phoenix. no jok, thats band name. theyre like alt rock, and i like them
On a more ranty music note, i want to comment on how loosely defined the term "soul music" has become. Case in point, there was a concert here on campus on saturday night with a great all student funk band. These guys were awesome. a few people i know of were in it which was awesome, they're good musicians/ singers. but after they left, the show went south. the main act for the night was some allegedly nationally known band called "his name is alive" that is "the new sound of detroit soul" (which is wat was actually on the posters for the event.
Now lets get into my issues with this band's set. 1) the guitarist was very good but her relied to much on some effects pedal he had that turned his playing into white noise. 2) the lead female vocalist had the flattest, most bored and uninterested look on her face the entire part of the set i was there for. 3) the set organization, because it was awful. The first song was 6 minutes of glorified nosie rock (basically rock music with no discernible guitar chords, just staticy noise and produced sound effects to add melody) instrumental. This was allright. the next 3-5 song were good heavier alternative rock songs with way less pedal pushing by the guitarist. I danced to these, but let me just say this: alternative/hard indie rock does not equal "soul music" in the slightest!
ok, now thats off my chest, lets proceed to the rest of the set. I'll do this as if you guys were in my head during the set. Here we go: oh wait, the tall skinny guy who was a freaking tamborine/ sound effect box player on all the other songs is getting out a trombone, oh god, he took off his overshirt and he's wearing a fishnet undershirt and you can see his chest hair. That is a fashion no-no and this is coming from a guy who has no fashion sense. Ok so now he's playing the trombone, oh wait he's being very spastic with it, looks like he's having a seizure. Why is he going to the back of the stage? no one can hear him. EPIC FAIL! The lead singer sound uninterested as usual. oh look the guitarist is holding his foot on that static nosie pedal and raising his guitar up and down, i cant hear any difference in sound. Ok now Joey trombone guy has set the trombone down and is playing with the sound effect box again. wait, now he's bent backwards and is pressing it to his forehead, what the frig? That's it this has gone from meh, to interesting to pure stoner rock, i cant believe i saw 3 different people with this band's cd in their hands.
ok. thats done. I wanna point out that after the 3-5 good songs, His name is Alive had a good crowd, but then they did that stoner rock song and lost 2/3rds of thier audience. ISn't the point of performing live shows not to lose people's interest part of the way thru?
Ok rant done. i'll end with a reading recomendation. I'm abotu 30 pages into "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan who is coming here to campus sometime. Its very good, and very interesting to read. its all about food and how it impacts us. that is a bad description, but look it up on amazon or if you're on campus and seeing this, its in the EC bookstore for $16.
Anyway, i'll be back next week either early or on the usual day, wednesday. So thanks for
reading.

Hey all just posting some random lyrics that came to my head after reading a post on my freind's blog, which i will leave private out of respect for him. comment below what you think of the lyrics.
"running on empty,
been stretched too thin
i'm running out of steam here
need to clear my head.
I need a brand new start,
so boot me up again"
