Weekly update 2-17-10: This one gets lenghty part 2

Welcome to part 2. Here's the rest, the more general stuff.

Please read part 1 first.

The "Meat and Potatoes" section:

haha. you guys like that section heading? anyhow, lets press on..

to ts week's main topics. First up big egos. now those of you who know me personally know that i have an ego, and i'll be the frist to admit that its kinda inflated. but when it comes to other people i know or know of, i cannot stand people that have this "God complex" of sorts when it comes to their ego. Specifically people who think they're awesome no matter what. To me, these people are the kind of people who dont seem to think theyre flawed, when everyone is. Now alot of you already know this is a dislike of mine, so this paragraph is gonna be a bit redundant for you all. but this whole issue recently came up for me again with a friend who i've had a couple tiffs with this year. that friend complains incessantly after every dance that Earlham has had this semester about the poor quality of it in terms of music taste and volume. that and this friend ("TF" for the rest of the paragraph) seems to have the sense that "TF" is awesome and is incredibly good looking. "TF is not incredibly good looking, in fact there's something that is very "meh" about "TF". Yet it is "TF" 's super inflated ego that causes the other state of mind. the other thing that annoys me abotu "TF" i mentioned in one of my mini-posts from over the weekend, so i wont go into it here (even though i said i would).

Ok rant done. Sorry that was so ranty. NExt topic.

Body hair:

Is anyone else find it a turn off that hippies just let their leg hair and armpit hair grow? I do. Now i respect it if it's done for religious reasons. There's nothing wrong with that, but if you're tryign to be all environmental by saving energy and water by not shaving your legs and such, its kind of nasty. well nasty's not the right word. I know shaving legs is hard from what i hear, but armputs are generlly easier and you can be environmentally aware and still not have hair in every possible spot on your body. Again, if you dont shave cause of a religious doctrine, thats ok by me.

two more thigns to cover this week. lets get to them.

A more Genral update on me:

Life is good for me. at long last my stressful period of classes seems to be winding down, which makes me very happy. that and early semester break is this weekend so we have thursday- sunday off. well we normall have Saturday and Sunday off, but not Thursday and Friday. I have some plans over the long weekend. mainly to do work on the weekends but still have fun, i get to sleep in on thursday and friday, and i have a summer job application to work on the essays for on friday, which shouldnt be too bad. Thursday, my big fun project is gonna be too inventorize (i think i just made up a word) my collection of transformers in Excel. that way i'll have a running list of what i have in my collection. I wont go into the specifics of the spreadsheet here, but its gonna be fun to do and then i can just add new figures to it as they come in. Speaking of figures, i'm debating on if i'm gonna take any to Greece with me on my May term trip. If i do, they'll be small ones that i can replace if need be.

the week that was in between these major updates was busy yet fun, like how my life has been the past couple of weeks. Last thusday and friday were manageable with a bit more work than usual cause i worked ahead in relation to the weekend in one class. The weekend was filled wiht essay writing for intro to lit (the papers we wrote we're gonna workshop and then re-write based on our peer's suggestions and those of the profs (i skimmed the first two sentences of one already and that person opens with shock value, which is something the jury is still otu for me in terms of liking it)) and filling out a study guide for human development. there was insane amount of questions for the study, especially given there was no TA or study session. most of the people i talked to spent several hours answering the questions and then studying from them. All in all thought, while i was greatly annoyed at the number of questions, it was actually a really effective way for me to study, and had very little trouble recalling the information on the test. the test was yesterday and Monday itself wasnt too bad. I honestly almost didnt go to my afternoon class yesterday, but i did cause i figured we'd be workshopping the papers in class. Turns out that wasnt the case and we spent the majority of the class analyzing an article analyzing authorship in literature. The article itself seemed pretty bland, and i'm not gonna lie, i actually didnt read it cause of time issues with the paper for the class and studying for Human Development. I'm convinced Lit will be interesting, even if i could really not care at all about the various literary theories we are covering. Makes me have more respect for English majors, they have to know alot of the different theories and criticisms.

Its funny, tyoign this blog post has actually taken most of my morning. Kind of intense.

Last topc for this section. here we go...

grinding on the dance floor- my 2 cents

Last thing i wanna touch on this week harks back to the dance this past weekend. the people i got to know from one of the dances i was in for Dance Alloy last semester were complaining about the griding and the "sea of hormones" that existed once the slightly drunk or mostly drunk people showed up. Maybe i;m in the minority of the predominately "sober on the weekend" people i know, but i honestly dont mind grinding. Sure, i'll get envious of a guy grinding wiht some girl who i'd wanna grind with, but in spite of that i dont mind it. It's just one of those social societal conventions i've come to accept. mainly because it'll be everywhere i go when i go out with freinds in grad school and when i'm my own.

Final thoughts Section

to everyone who sar through this post, i applaud you and i apologize for the length of it. I may or may not have bonus posts this next cycle between posts, we'll see. anyway, i'll do the next one of these big things on the 24th.
